For almost a decade I was an archivist at the Museum of Chinese in America in New York City before transitioning into the field of UX.
During the pandemic, I led an oral history project for the museum that focused on exploring the experiences of Asian Americans during this time. A story about a free meals program for elderly and vulnerable individuals ultimately led me down the path of UX. In NYC, during the height of the pandemic free meals were offered to individuals that needed them. These meals were dairy heavy and many Asian Americans have a lactose intolerance and were not able to take advantage of these meals.
Thinking about this issue and potential ways to remedy it led me into the field of UX. I found that not only do many government programs not account for cultural sensitivities but neither do many existing and emerging technologies. As a UX Researcher/Designer I want to be able to gain insights on marginalized communities and help make products and services more accessible to them.
While much of my professional UX research experience is subject to an NDA, a blog post I wrote about one of my projects can be found here.
